Welcome to the Travlady Blog!
Hello All!
I'm the Travlady and my brand new blog is beginning today with hopes that you will come along with me in my travels around the globe in search of tranquility, excitement, rest, anticipation of my next fantastic local meal, meeting new people and learning of their cultures and customs, adventures and most of all my quest for experiencing the beauty that our world has to offer. Wow! That was a mouthful but I mean every word. I want to experience everything I can while I'm here and hope you will join me.
In the future I plan to offer to literally take you along with me on my quest. We'll visit some new exciting places and some old familiar spots along the way. Until that time however, come along with me, the Travlady on my most recent journeys.
This trip I visited Kauai. It is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places on earth. You'll notice that I say that a lot - this whole world is beautiful if you look for the beauty. It's certainly one of the most peaceful places I've visited. Kauai is the most northern populated island in the Hawaiian chain. The population is a mixed variety of old and newcomers. The customs of Old Hawaii are still evident and the people are genuinely "Hawaiian". Waking up early (way early!) to ask the sun to rise by participating in an old Hawaiian sunrise ceremony was a first for me. I love to walk along the tranquil beach before the sun comes up but this trip we were treated to a truly memorable ceremony. Standing on a sacred knoll near the water listening to the chant of the Hawaiian woman coaxing the sun to come and warm the earth another day, I was reminded of the sacred cultures of my own Cherokee heritage. So you see, we're not so different. We all come from similar customs just celebrated differently.
Many other adventures awaited me on this trip but a favorite was chasing Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins and watching the occasional whale spout along the famous NaPali coastline. Another beautiful site I enjoyed while visiting Kauai was the site of a Monk Seal who just happened to beach herself on the sand outside our hotel. She was resting for her journey back out into the deep where she would be at home. As I happened upon her I thought how peaceful she looked just lying there sunning herself much like any of us on vacation! While on Kauai, speak softly, listen to the ancients as they tell us of the beauty of their island. Aloha!
